Hunter Wins $15,000,000 Jackpot

Last weeks (September 13, 2013) Lotto Max winner was Delmer Hartwig of Ottawa Ontario.

Hartwig was Elk hunting in Killaloe Ontario when he stopped in at a terminal to check his lucky ticket. “Big Winner” came up on the screen. Hartwig said he was in complete shock but continued the hunting trip with his buddies.

When asked what he planned to do with the money, Hartwig stated “I want to keep this simple. I want to share some money with family and friends, give some to charity and maybe buy a new car. I may splurge on an extreme hunting trip in the Northwest Territories or the Yukon.”

$50,000,000 Lotto Max Winner

The Powells have been playing Lotto Max as a family since its start in 2009, and their diligence has finally paid off.

After winning the $50 million jackpot on July 5, 2013, the family of 6 from Ontario cannot believe their good fortune.

Executive Director of Lottery Marketing OLG, John Mahoney, shared words of excitement and encouragement as he presented the entire family with the check for $50 million at the OLG Prize Centre on Tuesday.

The 66 year-old mother of the family, Lynda, was the one to purchase the winning ticket and discover their fortune. “I heard that the winning ticket was sold in Peterborough, but never thought that we were the winners. I checked the ticket on the self-scanner after grocery shopping and was shocked to see all the zeros,” she said.

Lynda shared the news with her husband John, 71, who could hardly believe what he was hearing. They later went on to share the news with their sons and daughters.

The family says that a trip to Wales and Disneyland are planned for the future. They also plan on sharing their new found fortune with fellow family members. Lynda said she also has her eye on a gold Cadillac Escalade. Son Michael laughed and responded, “I never thought Mom could think that big.”

Lynda and John’s children are: Daniel Powell, 45, Gaylene Powell, 43, Michael Powell, 41, and Sion Powell, 38.

Lynda purchased her winning ticket in Peterborough at the Walmart on Lansdowne Street West.

Lotto Max Canada Winners Scott and Linda Sinclair

Lotto Max Canada

An Interesting Twist or Razzle Dazzle?

In an unusual twist a Regina couple claimed their July 13, 2012 Lotto Max Canada prize of $21.7-million 9 months late. The winners are Scott and Linda Sinclair of Regina. However, the couple did not claim the prize until nine months after the draw on April 10, 2013.

The facts are a bit fuzzy. But according to the Western Canadian Lottery Corporation this is what happened:

  1. July 13, 2012 – date of Lotto Max Canada draw that resulted in the winning ticket
  2. August 7, 2012 – a claim was submitted to the Court of Queen’s Bench by a Regina housekeeper Doreen Annie Stewart claiming that a former client won $21.7M in the July 13, 2012 Lotto Max Canada draw and that this former client owed her 10% of the winnings. This is all according to verbal agreement between Stewart and her former employer. In an interesting twist, Stewart also claims that her former employer was someone other than Scott and Linda Sinclair.
  3. April 10, 2013 – nine months later Scott and Linda Sinclair step forward and claim the $21.7M Lotto Max Canada prize. They claim that they just kept putting off checking the ticket and that the entire experience has been very shocking.

Does this story sound a bit fishy? Yes. Could it be that Scott Sinclair made a razzle dazzle play? Maybe, two coincidences happening at the same bring the official story into question. Coincidences in lottery appear to be the norm, just ask Seguro Ndabene, a 5-time Canadian Lotto Winner.

Razzle Dazzle – a deceptive action typically consisting of a series of complex maneuvers, as a double reverse, hand-off or double bluff, usually executed in a flashy manner (source –

What is clear is that Scott and Linda Sinclair received their $21.7M and the story of Doreen  Stewart will most likely fade into oblivion. Unfortunately for Doreen Stewart statements of claim are very hard to hold up in court. If there was a razzle dazzle, Scott made the the play of the century.
